Conf iguring a Virtual NetLinx Master

When Virtual NetLinx Master is selected as the Transport Connection Option, the PC can act as a NetLinx Master for file transfer purposes, in lieu of an actual NetLinx Master).

  1. Select Settings > Workspace Communications Settings to open the Workspace Communication Settings dialog.
  2. Click System Settings to open the Communications Settings dialog, and open the Virtual NetLinx Master tab. (FIG. 227).

System Number: Enter the System Number for the Virtual NetLinx Master.
Available Connections: A listing of available Virtual NetLinx Master connections is provided in this table.
OK: Click to save your changes and close this dialog.
Cancel: Click to discard your changes and close this dialog.

The (read-only) Current Master Connection field indicates the current connection information.

  1. In the Available Connections window, select the IP Address of the Virtual NetLinx Master.
  2. Click Select - note that this updates the Current Platform Transport Selected field with the IP address of the selected virtual Master.
  3. Click OK to close the Communications Settings dialog and return to the Workspace Communication Settings dialog, now indicating the selected Virtual NetLinx Master as the current connection.
  4. Click OK to close the Workspace Communication Settings dialog.
  5. In the Online Tree, right-click and select Refresh System from the context menu to attempt to establish the specified connection.
    • If the connection is successful, the connection information is indicated in the Status Bar.
    • If the connection fails, the program will alert you and prompt you to revisit the current communication settings. If you receive this message, try the following:
    • Click Retry to attempt the connection again, using the same settings.
    • Click Change to re-visit the Workspace Communication Settings dialog to edit the current settings.
    • Click Cancel to close the dialog without establishing a connection.

Note that if the connection fails, the Status Bar indicates no active connection.
