Conf iguring System-Level Communications Settings

The Workspace Communication Settings dialog contains options that allow you to specify System-level communication settings. System-level settings override the default communications settings, and each System can have its own dedicated communication settings.

Via the "Active System Communications Settings" option

If one of the Systems in the currently opened Workspace is set as the active system (see Designating the Active System on

page 40), then the Active System Communications Settings option can be used to configure communication settings for the active System (only):

  1. Select Settings > Active System Communications Settings to open the Communications Settings dialog, indicating the current settings for the active System.
  2. Use the options in the Communications Settings dialog to edit/configure communication settings for the active System. Refer to

    Connecting to a Master Controller section on page 118

    for details.

  3. Click OK to save changes and close this dialog. The new communication settings are indicated in the Workspace Bar (Workspace tab).

Via the Workspace Communication Settings Dialog

  1. Select Settings > Workspace Communication Settings to open the Workspace Communication Settings dialog.
  2. Click to select a System (contained within a Project folder) from the Available System(s) list (FIG. 229).

  1. Click the System Settings button to access the Communications Settings dialog.
  2. Select a tab containing the default settings you want. Perform one of the following:
    • If the desired default settings have been used before, open the Recent tab and select the desired connection from the

Recent Connections list, and click Select.

    • To set a default Network connection, open the Network tab and select the desired connection from the list of previously configured Network connections, and click Select.

If the desired Network connection has not been previously configured, add it manually: See the

for instructions.

    • To set a default Serial connection, open the Serial tab and configure the communication settings as desired. See the

Connecting to a Master Controller via Serial section on page 127

for details.

    • To set a default USB connection, open the USB tab, select the desired connection in the Available USB Connections list, and click Select. See the

      Connecting to a Master Controller via USB section on page 128

      for details.

NOTE: With AMX's NX Series Controllers (NX-1200, NX-2200, NX-3200 and NX-4200), the USB Gadget Serial driver will need to be installed differently for users running the Windows 8.X 32/64 bit Operating Systems. This driver is required to connect to the USB programming port on the front panel of the NX Series Controllers. Manual installation of this driver will require the user to "Disable Driver Signature Verification" when installing unsigned drivers. Refer to the

Appendix: Installing

the USB Gadget Serial Driver (Windows 8) on page 204

for instructions on disabling driver signature verification and how to install the USB Gadget Serial driver.

    • To set a default Virtual NetLinx Master connection, open the Virtual NetLinx Master tab, select the connection you want as the default, and click Select. See the

      for details.

  • Click OK to save changes and close the Communications Settings dialog and return to the Workspace Communication Settings

dialog.

Note that the new communication settings for the selected System are indicated in the Workspace Communication Settings

dialog (FIG. 230):

  1. Click OK to close the Workspace Communication Settings dialog.

Via the System Properties dialog

Alternatively, you can also access System-level communications settings options via the System Properties dialog:

  1. Select (highlight) a System in the Workspace tab, and select Project > System Properties to open the System Properties dialog (FIG. 231).
