NetLinx Device Notif ication Options

The NetLinx Device Notif ications functionality in NetLinx Studio allows you to receive several types of auto-notification messages from one or more specified NetLinx devices. Use the NetLinx Device Notifications Options dialog to add and remove Devices from the notifications list, and specify which Notifications are enabled for each device (FIG. 272).

The NetLinx Device Notif ication Options dialog contains 14 columns. Except for the Device column, each column represents a notification type which is enabled/disabled in the NetLinx Notification Properties dialog.

    • The Device column indicates the devices that are included to receive NetLinx Device Notifications. Note that initially, only the default device entry All Devices is indicated (with no notifications enabled). NetLinx Devices can be added to the list via the Add command button (see

      Adding a Device to the Device Notification List section on page

      160).

NOTE: The D:P:S combination of 0:0:0 is the default (All Devices) setting. This entry cannot be deleted.

    • If a notification type is enabled, the word ON is displayed in the appropriate column. See the

      Enable NetLinx Device

      Notifications section on page 163

      .

    • Select the Enable Asynchronous Notif ications option to enable asynchronous device notifications.
    • Select Enable NetLinx Device Notif ications from the Diagnostics menu (or use the toolbar button) to enable the NetLinx notifications, as specified in this dialog. See the

      Enable NetLinx Device Notifications section on page 163.

Adding a Device to the Device Notif ication List

To edit, add or remove devices or Notification types, you must be connected to a NetLinx Master (see Connecting to a MasterController on page 118).

  1. Select Diagnostics > NetLinx Device Notif ication Options to open the NetLinx Device Notifications Options dialog (see FIG. 272 on page 160).
  2. Click Add to open the NetLinx Notification Properties (Add) dialog (FIG. 274).

  1. Specify the Device, Port and System numbers for the NetLinx device that you want to set notification options for.
  2. Check each notification type that you want to enable for that device.
    • To set the selected set of notifications as the default notifications for this device, click the Set As Defaults button.
    • Once you set the default notifications, you can use the Use Defaults button to recall the default set.
  3. Click OK to close the NetLinx Notification Properties (Add) dialog and return to the NetLinx Device Notif ications Options dialog. The new target device specified has its own line in the notifications list. The Device:Port:System values (for example, 10001:0:0) identify the device in the Device column. The selected notification option(s) are labeled as ON in the associated

columns (FIG. 274).

  1. Repeat steps 2-5 to configure NetLinx Notifications for as many additional devices as is necessary.
  2. Select Enable Asynchronous Notif ications to enable/disable NetLinx asynchronous notification messages being sent by the master controller. These are low-level strings of raw data, used primarily for troubleshooting the NetLinx master. This option is intended for use in conjunction with AMX Technical Support.
  3. Click Done to save changes and close the dialog.

Removing Devices from the Notif ications List

In order to edit, add or remove devices from the Notifications list you must be connected to a NetLinx Master (see Connecting to aMaster Controller on page 118).

  1. Select Diagnostics > NetLinx Device Notif ication Options to open the NetLinx Device Notif ications dialog.
  2. Select a Device from the list and click the Remove command button. Click Remove All to clear the list.
    • The program will not allow you to remove the All Devices (0:0:0) listing.
    • To clear the Notification tab of the Output Bar, right-click and select Clear in the Notification tab context menu.

Editing Device Notif ication Settings

In order to edit, add or remove devices or Notification types, you must be connected to a NetLinx Master (see Connecting to aMaster Controller on page 118).

  1. Select Diagnostics > NetLinx Device Notif ication Options to open the NetLinx Device Notifications Options dialog.
  2. Select a device in the Device list and click Edit (FIG. 275).

  1. This open the NetLinx Notif ication Properties - (Edit) dialog (FIG. 276).

NOTE: Alternatively, you can double-click on a device in the Device list to access this dialog.

  1. Check or un-check the notification types as desired.

NOTE: A very large amount of data may be generated if all options are enabled for every device in a large System.

  1. Click OK to save your changes and return to the NetLinx Device Notifications Options dialog. The new notification options are indicated (as ON) in the notifications list.
  2. In the NetLinx Device Notifications Options dialog, select Enable Asynchronous Notif ications to enable/disable NetLinx asynchronous notification messages being sent by the master controller. These are low-level strings of raw data, used primarily for troubleshooting the NetLinx master. This option is intended for use in conjunction with AMX Technical Support.
  3. Click Done to save changes and close the NetLinx Device Notifications Options dialog.
