NetLinx Master Security
With security enabled on the NetLinx Master, users will be required to provide the correct User Name and Password in order to establish communication with the Master.
- Security is enabled or disabled on the target Master (via options in the Security tab of the Master's built-in interface). Refer to the Master's documentation for details on enabling/disabling security.
- User Name and Password are case-sensitive.
- If the correct User Name and Password are not entered, NetLinx Studio will indicate "Authentication Failure", and the connection to the Master will be denied.
- You can apply a default User Name and Password to the Default Settings option, so that as you create new NetLinx systems they will always require the specified User Name/Password combination.
NOTE: Security is not available for NetLinx Virtual Master connections.
Connecting to a Secured NetLinx Master (Network Connection)
To connect to a NetLinx Master with security enabled, the correct User Name and Password must be entered before communication is established:
- Select Settings > Workspace Communication Settings to open the Workspace Communication Settings dialog.
- Click Default Settings to open the Communications Settings dialog.
- Select the connection associated with the secured NetLinx Master (in the Recent or Network tab).
- Click Edit to configure the selected connection via the Edit TCP/IP Setting dialog (FIG. 232):
FIG. 232 Edit TCP/IP Setting dialog
- Enter the User Name and Password that are set for this NetLinx Master (case sensitive).
- Click OK to save changes and close the Edit TCP/IP Setting dialog.
- Click OK to close the Communications Settings dialog.
- Click OK to close the Workspace Communication Settings dialog. At this point you should be able to connect to the Master.
SSL/TLS Connectivity with NX-Series Controllers
You can connect via SSL/TSL to an NX-series controller that has ICSP security enhancement firmware installed (v1.5 or greater.) When you select the Use SSL/TLS Connection option in the Edit TCP/IP Setting dialog (FIG. 232), NetLinx Studio automatically sets the connection port to 1320 and opens a secured connection on this port to the NetLinx controller. You cannot change the port assignment when this option is selected.
NOTE: If you have your connection settings for an NI-series controller set to port 1320, NetLinx Studio will try to open an SSL/TLS connection, which will fail since NI-series controllers do not have the new security enhancements.
If You Don't Connect
- Verify that the master is set for ICSP Connectivity, with Require Encryption enabled (via the Master's built-in interface).
- Refer to the Master's documentation for details on enabling/disabling security.
